A Musical Beginning
Regina Chernychko was born in Kharkiv, Ukraine, into a family of musicians and began studying piano at the age of four at the Kharkiv Special Music School for Gifted Children.
Education & Mentors
She studied Solo Piano Performance with Olga Rissin-Morenova and Piano Chamber Music with Ralf Gothóni at the University of Music Karlsruhe, with Leonid Margarius at the International Piano Academy Incontri col Maestro in Imola, and with Prof. Jacques Rouvier at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. She also received artistic guidance from renowned musicians including Jerome Rose, Sontraud Speidel, Akiko Ebi, Peter Donohoe, Boris Petrushansky, Malcolm Bilson, Joaquín Achúcarro, Alexander Braginsky, and Philippe Entremont.
Awards & Honors
Chernychko is a winner of the 60th International Piano Competition Maria Canals in Barcelona. She has also won first prizes at the Internationaler Wettbewerb für Klavier Animato Stiftung in Zürich, the Concorso Pianistico Internazionale Spazio Teatro 89 in Milano, the Ricard Viñes International Piano Competition in Lleida, the Chopin Prize in Rome, the Delia Steinberg Competition in Madrid, and the Young Musicians competition in Enschede, as well as the Dorothy MacKenzie Artist Recognition Scholarship Award at the International Keyboard Institute & Festival in New York.
On the World’s Stages
Her engagements have brought her to some of Europe’s most important stages, including Sala Verdi in Milano, Salle Cortot in Paris, the Mozarteum Great Hall in Salzburg, Smetana Hall in Prague, Palacio Euskalduna in Bilbao, Reduta Concert Hall in Bratislava, Auditorio de Tenerife “Adán Martín,” Brucknerhaus in Linz, Teatro de la Maestranza in Sevilla, Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid, and L’Auditori and Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona.
With Orchestra
Regina Chernychko made her orchestral debut in 1993 with the Kharkiv Philharmonic Orchestra. She has since appeared as soloist with orchestras including the Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid, Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra of Belarus, Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla, Baden-Baden Philharmonic, Bruckner Orchester Linz, Bilbao Symphony Orchestra, Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, Staatsorchester Stuttgart, and Magdeburgische Philharmonie, among others.
Recordings & Broadcasts
She has participated in live broadcasts for SWR 2 Kulturforum with Joachim Kaiser in Ulm, and has recorded live sessions for Radio 80 Bergen, SWR Karlsruhe, Radio Vaticana Musica in Rome, and Radio Catalunya Música in Barcelona. Her CD of piano sonatas by Padre Antonio Soler and works by Anton Rubinstein was released on the NAXOS label.
